If you saw my Obsessed post a few days a ago then you might understand the dire need to make these shorts as soon as possible, so here are my DIY dip dye Tribal shorts.
I won't lie I may have some brain damage from the bleach fumes, but I'd say it was worth it.
They'll be even better with a little more wear and tear!
As for a tutorial I started with a pair of Jeans, cut them to the same length as my favorite pair of cut offs then dipped the shorts in a half bleach half water solution for a couple hours. I was expecting a peach color but I was pleasantly surprised with this pale yellow.
For the pattern all I can say is a ruler will be your best friend and maybe draw it out on a pice of paper first. I had to learn for my mistakes so don't look to closely :)

OMG! I'm going to try this. I cant wait!
ReplyDeleteDid you just use a pen for the pattern or was it something else? Love this idea by the way. And I have three pairs of jeans I've been planning on chopping so this is about to be assigned to one of them. Thank you for this post!
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteThanx for the comment we're glad you like the shorts! You're correct I used a uni-ball pen. My plan was to just do the outline with the pen and then use material paint to fill in the pattern, but I was too excited to finish them that I continued to color with the pen (it took forever.) Eventually I'll have to fill them in properly before I wash them.
I'm making these right now! Just put the shorts in to soak! I'm so excited! Thanks for the great DIY idea. Loving it.
ReplyDeleteAmy, Thats great to hear! Email us a photo of how they turn out, we would love to see them! prudenceandaustere@gmail.com

how do you wash them?
ReplyDeleteOh wow, these are amazing! Mind if I repost on my blog? I'd credit you of course!
ReplyDeleteOf course you can Pearl:)
ReplyDeleteI love these! And if you use a pen to make the pattern will it come off in the wash? Would you recommend sharpies?
ReplyDeleteReally love this idea :) I also have the same question , does it wash out easily?
ReplyDeleteHi Gabby and Emily. When I originally made these I drew the pattern in a ballpoint pen which would have washed out but I have since gone over the pattern with a fabric marker and have had no problem washing them. You should be able to find fabric markers at just about any craft store.
ReplyDeletecool :)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if a Sharpie would work?? I really love your cut-offs, who doesn't have an old pair of jeans sitting in their drawer??
ReplyDeleteThey are great! Loooooove the idea. I will definitely try this.
